Country music has a new awards-season frontrunner, and she arrived with a remarkable number beside her name. Ella Langley leads the 2026 Country Music Association Awards with nine nominations, ahead of the show’s 60th anniversary ceremony in Nashville.

The CMA announced its nominations in September, placing Langley in contention for Entertainer of the Year as well as honors for recordings and songs. Her single Choosin’ Texas and the song Be Her both figure prominently in the nominations, while the album Dandelion is in the Album of the Year field.

A crowded field, and a meaningful milestone

Nine nominations is an arresting number, but it does not make the result inevitable. Miranda Lambert follows with seven nominations. Kacey Musgraves and songwriter-producer Ben West have five apiece, while Cody Johnson, Chris Stapleton and Stephen Wilson Jr. are among the artists with four.

The Entertainer of the Year nominees are Luke Combs, Cody Johnson, Ella Langley, Chris Stapleton and Lainey Wilson. It is a field that includes established road performers alongside a rapidly rising contender. Voters will be considering very different kinds of careers and audience connections.

This year’s show takes place Wednesday, November 18, at Bridgestone Arena, with a live broadcast on ABC and Disney+ and next-day availability on Hulu. Lainey Wilson is set to host.

What country radio is hearing

One of country music’s strengths is its willingness to tell complicated emotional stories through apparently simple songs. A production can be shiny, a chorus can be enormous, but listeners still want a line that sounds as though somebody lived it.

That is part of the appeal of the current field. Langley’s rise sits beside the longevity of artists like Lambert and Stapleton and the crossover reach of Combs and Wilson. Country radio listeners in northern Montana know that a good song does not stay neatly inside an industry category; it travels in pickup trucks, kitchens, arenas and small-town bars.

There are still votes to count before the winners are announced. In the meantime, the nominations offer a useful listening list. If you have only heard one of Langley’s songs, there is plenty of time to catch up before November 18.
