Who are The War and Treaty?

Michael and Tanya Trotter formed The War and Treaty in 2014. The center’s description says the duo has earned nominations from the Grammys, the Academy of Country Music and the Country Music Association. It also says the Americana Music Association named them Duo/Group of the Year two years in a row.

They’re on the road behind a new project, “The Story of Michael and Tanya.” The center lists some well-known guests on it:

  • Whoopi Goldberg gives the spoken intro to “Litty.”
  • Kenneth “Babyface” Edmonds wrote “You Can’t Hurt Me Anymore.”
  • Wynonna Judd and Valerie June both appear on “Reclaim All Of Your Time.”

For a Hi-Line crowd raised on country radio and church music, that blend of country, soul and gospel should feel familiar.

Who is opening?

Blank Page is a young country duo with a direct tie to the headliners. The center describes them as 19-year-old high school sweethearts from Maryland, now based in Tennessee. Their name comes from the lyrics of a War and Treaty song. The Trotters later invited them to sing backup on “High Heels” and have brought them on stage several times, according to the same page.

Is Kalispell worth the drive from Havre?

Kalispell is roughly 260 miles from Havre, and U.S. 2 runs most of the way. That’s a long drive on a Friday, and late October weather on Marias Pass can change fast. If you go, plan to stay the night and check road conditions before you leave.

There’s no comparable country or Americana show on the Hi-Line this month that KHEW News could find. The search for these music stories turned up no confirmed concert in Havre for the rest of October.

Other Montana concerts in October

If Kalispell is too far, here are two other October shows KHEW News is covering:

  • Saturday, Oct. 17, Bozeman: Missoula garage punk trio Minot plays The Labor Temple with Tiny Iota and At Nadir, about two weeks after releasing its third album.
  • Monday, Oct. 26, Bozeman: Apsáalooke hip hop artist Supaman emcees and headlines Building Kaala’s Village at The ELM, a benefit for a family healing center in Lodge Grass. Doors at 5:30 p.m., show at 6.

Both are a long drive from the Hi-Line too, so pick the one that’s worth the miles to you.
